Village of Bangofla
🌍 About the Village of Bangofla
The village of Bangofla is a centuries-old haven of artistry, deeply rooted in the heart of Ivory Coast. Known as a sacred space for dancers, drummers, and artisans, it has welcomed visitors from across the world—including Europe, Australia, Canada, and the United States—all seeking to learn and experience the cultural richness it holds.
With the blessing of the village chief, generations have come to study traditional West African art forms such as the Zaouli Mask Dance, the Tall Mask Dance, Boyole, and many others. These are more than performances—they are living legacies, spiritual expressions, and ancient knowledge passed down through rhythm and movement.

One of the most celebrated cultural traditions of the region is the Zaouli dance, a sacred mask dance of the Guro people. Created in the 1950s and inspired by a young girl named Djela Lou Zaouli, this dance is more than performance—it's a ritual of identity, resilience, and unity. Traditionally performed during funerals, festivals, and important communal events, the Zaouli is believed to enhance village productivity and strengthen the spirit of the community.
In 2017, the Zaouli dance was officially recognized by UNESCO as part of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, cementing its place as a global treasure.
As modernization touches the village of Bangofla—with the arrival of electricity and new infrastructure—there is a profound need to safeguard these cultural roots. The planned Cultural Community Center will serve as a living archive, a gathering space, and a sanctuary for traditional music, dance, and ancestral knowledge. Its mission is to preserve the legacy of Emmanuel’s family and the greater Guro community, ensuring that the sacred rhythms of Bangofla continue to inspire future generations..
